In his first season as a starter, Turek won the William Jennings trophy as the goalie for the team with the fewest goals allowed, finishing witha 1.94 goals-againsy average and set a record for most wind(42) my a goaltender in his first year with a new team. His win total ranke dhim second in the NHL, while his seven shutouts placed him first. Turek played for the gold winning Czech team at the 1996 World Championships, winning first team honors and finishing 7-0-1 wotha 1.88 GAA. He was drafted 113th overall by the Minnisota North Stars in 1990 NHL Entry Draft and dealt to the St.Louis for a draft pick in 1999. In 2001. he was traded to the Calgary Flames for Fred Brathwaite, Daniel Tkaczuk and Sergi Varlamov.
